As the IPL 2025 reaches its thrilling conclusion, the race for the Orange and Purple Caps is heating up. With Mumbai Indians (MI) eliminating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator, the competition for top honors in both batting and bowling is coming down to the wire.

Orange Cap Race: Sai Sudharsan and Suryakumar Yadav in the Hunt

B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill were at the top of the Orange Cap standings before the Eliminator match. Despite Gill’s early departure for just 1 run, Sudharsan capitalized on his opportunity, scoring 80 runs and taking his tally to 759 runs. Sudharsan remains the only player to have crossed the 700-run mark in IPL 2025.

Suryakumar Yadav, who recently rose to No. 2 on the Orange Cap table with 673 runs, is still in contention for the top spot. His 33 runs in the Eliminator match against GT were crucial in setting up the challenging 229-run chase. Suryakumar still has one, possibly two, innings to overtake Sudharsan.

However, the biggest challenger to Sudharsan’s position is none other than Virat Kohli. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star, sitting at No. 5 with 614 runs, will need a spectacular performance in the final to have any chance of surpassing Sudharsan. Despite Kohli’s remarkable abilities, the gap of 145 runs may prove difficult to close, especially with only one match remaining for him.

Other active contenders include Prabhsimran Singh of Punjab Kings (PBKS) at No. 10 with 517 runs, and Shreyas Iyer, who follows closely with 516 runs at No. 11.

Purple Cap Battle: Prasidh Krishna Leads with 25 Wickets

On the bowling side, Prasidh Krishna ended his IPL 2025 campaign with a stellar performance of 2 for 53, bringing his total to 25 wickets, putting him firmly in the lead for the Purple Cap. Krishna’s tally is impressive, and with Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finishing his season with 24 wickets, he remains a solid No. 2.

RCB’s Josh Hazlewood and MI’s Trent Boult, both with 21 wickets, will still have a shot at claiming the Purple Cap if they perform well in the remaining matches. However, the gap to Krishna is significant.

Other notable bowlers still active in the tournament include Jasprit Bumrah of MI and Arshdeep Singh of PBKS, both with 18 wickets. But they will likely fall short of challenging for the top position.

Final Thoughts

With only a few matches remaining in IPL 2025, the competition for both the Orange and Purple Caps is more intense than ever. Suryakumar Yadav’s rise to No. 2 in the Orange Cap race has set up an exciting finish, while Prasidh Krishna’s impressive 25 wickets could see him finish as the leading bowler of the season. As we move towards the final matches, all eyes will be on these top performers to see who emerges as the winner of the coveted awards.
