Pant Reflects on LSG’s Inconsistent Season 40 Overs of Good Cricket Needed

Rishabh Pant Fined INR 30 Lakh for Third Slow Over-Rate Offence

Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been penalized for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Lucknow. This marks Pant’s third offence of the season, with previous breaches occurring on April 5 and April 26. According to the IPL’s code of conduct, Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh for the violation.

Other members of the playing XI received fines of either INR 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.

While this is Pant’s third offence, he will not face suspension, as the rules were amended ahead of IPL 2025. Previously, multiple slow over-rate violations led to suspensions, but the new rules prevent such penalties for captains like Pant. However, Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya did miss his team’s season opener due to a suspension carried over from last season.

In Tuesday’s match, Pant’s brilliant knock of 118* from 61 balls helped LSG post a challenging total of 227/3. However, RCB chased down the target with ease, securing a six-wicket win with eight balls to spare, thanks to Virat Kohli’s 54 and Jitesh Sharma’s explosive 85*.

LSG finished the league phase with six wins and 12 points from 14 games, securing the seventh spot on the points table. RCB, on the other hand, advanced to Qualifier 1 with 19 points.
