Namibia to Host South Africa for the First Time at New Windhoek Stadium in October

In a historic cricketing moment, Namibia will play South Africa for the first time in their brand-new stadium in Windhoek on October 11, 2025. This one-off T20I will mark the official opening of the Windhoek Cricket Stadium, which will later host matches during the 2026 Men’s U-19 World Cup and the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup.

The newly constructed stadium, with a capacity of 7,000, is a major milestone for Cricket Namibia. It will serve as the venue for future international matches, previously held at the club ground Wanderers, also in Windhoek. The stadium has been under development since 2021 and also houses Namibia’s High-Performance Centre.

Johann Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia, expressed his excitement: “This truly is a memorable occasion. The new ground has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialized. A match against South Africa, one of the world’s top cricketing nations, is the perfect way to open this world-class facility.”

Despite being neighbors, South Africa and Namibia have never faced each other in an international match before, which highlights the growing cricketing ties between African nations. The opening match will foster increased cricket relations in the region, with discussions underway for more fixtures between South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in the future.

South Africa’s Pholesti Moseki, CSA CEO, remarked: “We are honoured to be part of this historic occasion. Namibia is a competitive side, and this fixture reflects the growing strength of cricket on the continent.”

Namibia will also participate in the Africa T20 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, with hopes of securing one of two spots available for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Namibia’s success in the past T20 World Cups, including a notable victory over Sri Lanka in 2022, adds more excitement to their growing cricketing profile.
