Jamie Overton Returns to Adelaide Strikers for BBL 2025

England allrounder Jamie Overton will rejoin Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming BBL 2025 season after the team secured him as an international pre-signing ahead of the overseas draft. Overton has been a standout performer for the Strikers in the last two seasons, with 18 matches under his belt, and was named the Strikers’ MVP last season.

The BBL introduced a rule prior to last season that allowed one overseas player to be pre-signed ahead of the draft, ensuring they are available for the entire season, including finals. This initiative helps prevent the mass exodus of overseas players to other leagues after January, a trend that had previously affected the BBL.

Overton has made significant contributions with both bat and ball. He has taken 27 wickets in 18 matches at an economy rate of 8.81 and has been a reliable finisher with the bat, scoring 276 runs at an impressive strike rate of 150.81. His best performance came in a match against Sydney Sixers, where he smashed 32 not out off 14 balls.

Strikers’ coach Tim Paine expressed his delight in securing Overton, saying, “Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us. His performances with bat and ball have been outstanding, and his competitive spirit and energy bring so much to the group. Jamie can change the course of a match in just a few overs.”

Overton, excited to return for another season, shared his thoughts, “I’m thrilled to be coming back to Adelaide for another season. The support from the fans at Adelaide Oval has been incredible. It’s a fantastic club, and I’m determined to help us push for the finals and ultimately, the BBL title in BBL|15.”

With Overton’s return, Sydney Sixers remain the only team in the BBL without an overseas pre-signing. Other teams have already locked in their international players, including Colin Munro for Brisbane Heat, Chris Jordan for Hobart Hurricanes, and Tom Curran for Melbourne Stars, among others.

Strikers are also making changes to their squad, with Brendan Doggett and Jake Weatherald moving to the Renegades and Hurricanes respectively, while Jason Sangha joins from Sydney Thunder after a successful season with South Australia.

The Strikers have four picks in the BBL overseas draft on June 19, with picks No. 2, 10, 23, and 26.
