Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain is set to return to international cricket after more than two years of absence, as he prepares to feature in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The 30-year-old fast bowler was sidelined with a severe ACL injury during a 2023 series against Afghanistan, a setback that required five knee surgeries and a 16-month-long rehab journey.
In a heartfelt interview, Ebadot opened up about his recovery process, mental strength, and the unwavering support of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
🩺 Five Surgeries. Two Years. One Goal: Comeback.
“Usually, a fast bowler suffers from one injury like an ACL or meniscus tear. I had five different surgeries on my knee,” Ebadot revealed.
The long and painful recovery saw him stay away from competitive cricket since 2023, making his return all the more special. He described the rehab process as physically exhausting and mentally draining, admitting that there were moments of fear—especially when he resumed bowling.
💪 No Giving Up: A Mental Battle as Well
Despite the extended time on the sidelines, Ebadot never entertained the idea of quitting.
“I am not someone who gives up. I always believed I would come back. The doctors told me it would take time, but I never lost hope.”
Initially, he struggled to bowl in rhythm, and the fear of re-injury haunted him. But under the guidance of trainer Nathan Kelly in India, he rebuilt both physical strength and confidence.
“Since the BPL, I can bowl at full rhythm again. I don’t feel like someone who had surgery anymore.”
🇧🇩 BCB’s Role: More Than Just a Cricket Board
Ebadot praised the Bangladesh Cricket Board for their swift medical response and continued support.
“I got injured during the Afghanistan ODI series, but BCB didn’t delay. They flew me to London immediately for surgery. Later, they sent me to India for rehab. I never felt disconnected from the team.”
He also expressed gratitude towards BCB President Nazmul Hassan and cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim, who believed in his discipline and hard work.
🏏 Healthy Fast-Bowling Competition in Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s fast-bowling department has grown in strength over the past two years, and Ebadot sees this as a positive sign.
“There’s been healthy competition since 2022. You can pick any of our pacers for any format. It’s great for the team’s future.”
✨ A Second Life in Cricket
Having missed out on almost two years of cricket, Ebadot sees this return as the restart of his career.
“To be honest, my career paused in 2023. I want to restart from where I left off. I seek everyone’s blessings.”
🌴 Challenge Ahead: Flat Wickets in Sri Lanka
With flat pitches expected in Sri Lanka, Ebadot remains optimistic.
“Every pitch presents challenges—green tops or flat ones. We’re not a weak team. We’re ready to take on any condition.”
🗣️ Final Word
Ebadot’s story is a testament to resilience, discipline, and belief. With renewed strength and confidence, the Bangladesh pacer is all set to return to the longest format of the game and contribute to a fast-bowling unit that’s rising steadily in world cricket.
As Bangladesh heads to Sri Lanka, all eyes will be on Ebadot Hossain—a warrior back from the brink.
