Bharat Arun to Enhance Sri Lankan Fast Bowlers’ Skills

Indian Coach Bharat Arun to Work with Top Sri Lanka Cricketers for Two Weeks

Bharat Arun, former bowling coach of the Indian men’s team, is set to work with Sri Lanka’s top cricketers in a special coaching programme aimed at improving the standards of Sri Lankan fast bowlers. Arun will run a 14-day program starting on June 2, focusing on enhancing both junior and senior squads at Sri Lanka Cricket’s high-performance centre.

Coaching Programme Details

Arun, who served as India’s bowling coach from 2014 to 2021, will work closely with the Sri Lanka national men’s and women’s teams, including the U19 men’s team and the women’s ‘A’ team. The programme will also involve coaching staff from various clubs and provinces, along with coach-educators. Arun’s focus will be on technical and skill-based training for fast bowlers, and strategy sessions for both red-ball and white-ball formats.

During his tenure, Arun will conduct various activities, such as:

  • Technical and skill development sessions for fast bowlers.
  • Video and performance analysis with players and coaches.
  • Match scenario training to enhance players’ game understanding.

Previous Indian Coaches’ Influence

Arun’s programme follows in the footsteps of other prominent Indian coaches who have conducted similar initiatives in Sri Lanka. In May, R Sridhar, the former Indian fielding coach, ran a ten-day programme aimed at enhancing fielding skills. Additionally, last year, Zubin Bharucha, Rajasthan Royals’ director of high performance, conducted a batting coaching programme in Sri Lanka.

Quiet Period for Sri Lanka Men’s Team

Sri Lanka’s men’s team is currently in a quieter phase, with only two Tests scheduled until next May and a limited international calendar ahead. The team’s non-qualification for the Champions Trophy this year has led to a more subdued schedule. The coaching programme led by Arun will serve as an opportunity to further build the foundation for future success, particularly in the fast-bowling department.
