Ashwin Fined for Dissent and Outburst in TNPL Match

Ashwin Fined for Dissent and Equipment Misuse in TNPL Match

Incident Overview:

Ravichandran Ashwin, the captain of Dindigul Dragons, was fined 30% of his match fee following an incident in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match against Tiruppur Tamizhans on June 8. The incident occurred after Ashwin was given out lbw to R. Sai Kishore. He expressed dissent over the umpiring decision, as it appeared the ball had pitched outside leg stump. Ashwin’s frustration led to an outburst, including hitting his pads with the bat and throwing his gloves as he walked off the field.

Fines Imposed:

A TNPL official confirmed the sanction, revealing that Ashwin was fined 10% of his match fee for showing dissent and an additional 20% for misusing equipment. Ashwin accepted the sanctions following a hearing by the match referee.

Match Context:

The match, held under lights at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Cricket Ground, featured umpire Kritika and match referee Arjun Kripal Singh. Ashwin had already exhausted both available reviews, having used them on wide-ball calls. As a result, he could not challenge the umpire’s decision.

Ashwin had scored 18 runs off 11 balls, including two fours and a six, before his dismissal. His departure at 39/1 triggered a collapse, with Dindigul losing the next nine wickets for just 54 runs. Tiruppur Tamizhans successfully chased down the modest target of 94, winning by nine wickets with 49 balls to spare.

TNPL Standings:

Dindigul Dragons now sit fifth in the TNPL standings, having won one and lost one of their two matches. This is the ninth edition of the league, which began on June 6 and will run until July 6.
