New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has officially named Rob Walter as the new head coach of the New Zealand Men’s team, succeeding Gary Stead following his seven-year tenure. Walter’s coaching term will begin in mid-June 2025 and continue through to the end of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2028.

The 49-year-old Walter brings a strong international and domestic coaching portfolio. Most recently, he guided South Africa’s national team to:

  • 2024 T20 World Cup Final
  • 2025 Champions Trophy Semi-Final

His earlier stints include:

  • Head Coach of Otago Volts & Central Stags (NZ domestic)

  • Assistant Coach roles in the IPL for Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils
