The 2025 Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, initially set to begin on June 6 in Sri Lanka, has been postponed indefinitely due to adverse weather and health concerns, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced on June 2.
Reasons for the Postponement
The decision to delay the tournament came after a letter from Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket, the host board. Silva mentioned adverse weather conditions and the spread of Chikungunya in the region as the primary reasons for the postponement request.
“The ACC is committed to providing opportunities for young women cricketers to develop their skills and compete at the highest level,” said Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council. “We understand the strategic significance of this tournament in shaping the future of women’s cricket in Asia, and we will work diligently to reschedule the event at the earliest possible date.”
Future Plans for the Tournament
The ACC will announce new dates for the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup in due course, once the situation improves.
